July 7-11, 2003 — Havana, Cuba
The Inter-American Council on Physics Education and the Cuban Physical Society (SCF), together with theirs partners, the Physical Faculty of Havana University, the Higher Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology of Cuba, the Pedagogical University "Enrique Jose Varona," and the Latin American School of Medicine, invite you to attend the VIII Inter-American Conference on Physics Education to be held at Havana University, Cuba, from July 7 to 11, 2003. The goal of the conference is to present, discuss, and publish new ideas and results for improving physics teaching at all educational levels and for improving the preparation of future physics teachers.
As we are all aware, there is a ban on travel to Cuba for American citizens. This meeting, however, will qualify under an OFAC General License, and will allow American citizens to travel there legally for the conference. This means that no US applicant (citizen or permanent resident) need apply for a separate license to travel to Cuba. The services of a licensed agent to handle all arrangements under the General License have been made available. All participants wishing to travel under our general license will have to contact the travel agency at 202-362-6100 (202-362-7411 fax) or email her at blubic@aol.com.
Arrangements to develop a program for spouses have proceeded, in case spouses are interested in accompanying attendees. Since tourism is not permitted, the spouses must participate in a cultural exchange that we are recommending be organized with the participation of the University of Havana. Again, the travel agent will handle the details although spouses will be restricted to travel over specific dates.
The deadline for registration and abstract submission has been extended to the end of March! For more information, visit or http://www.geocities.com/eventociaef/ingles.htm.
