Consider Coaching the U.S. Physics Team

AAPT is seeking faculty to join the staff for the 2016 U.S. Physics Team. The U.S. Physics Team program is responsible for the selection and training of the top high school physics students in the nation in preparation for the International Physics Olympiad. High School and College physics faculty are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will attend the U.S. Physics Team residential training camp in Maryland, mid May 2016 (exact dates to be announced).

Qualifications include an ability to:

  • work with exceptional high school physics students and to provide intellectual support and leadership;
  • quickly solve difficult physics problems, and clearly communicate solution strategies to students;
  • be sensitive to the various challenges that face these students and to serve as mentor, teacher, friend, role model, and advisor.

U.S. Team faculty will assist in the grading of the USAPhO exam in March and instructing the U.S. Physics Team students in one or more of the following topics: atomic and nuclear physics, relativity, fluids, thermodynamics, waves, or AC circuits. Faculty will also work on development and implementation of labs for training and examining students, instructing students in experimental technique, and grading lab reports.
