John Y Kim Montgomery Blair High School, Silver Spring, MD Junior Hobbies Clubs Experience Biography I was initially exposed to math at a very early age and physics some time later. And I wish I could tell you a wonderful story about how my first word was pi or how my childhood buddy Feynman and I used to hang out all the time, but it just wouldn't be true. Here's what I can tell you. By studying math outside of school, I was able to score a 5 on the AP Calculus exam in 7th grade. Since then, I have invested my mathematical interest in a number of competitions and programs. I have taken the USAMO and have been invited to MOP every year starting in 8th grade. I hope to complete a math-related research project by the time I graduate high school. My curiosity as to how things worked drew me into physics. While physics has always interested me, I did not begin studying physics seriously until this past summer, when I took two AP Physics courses (Mechanics; Electricity and Magnetism) through EPGY. Prior to that, I learned physics using Tipler's books whenever time permitted. When I am not doing something academic, you'll find me playing basketball, playing frisbee, eating, talking with friends, or sleeping.
