Meet Andrew
Towards the end of my time at graduate school, I had several in-depth conversations with my advisor regarding the next steps in my career. One of the things he highlighted was the skillset I had accrued over the last several years. He suggested that I should leverage my strengths towards a teaching career. From that conversation, I found that teaching is a wonderful fit for my desire to help the next generation of STEM majors.
I wanted to be part of a community with a shared vision for improving physics education and outreach. To be a more effective educator, it helps to learn from colleagues across the nation. Their varied perspectives offer different opportunities to engage in new ideas I might not have thought of on my own.

Be an advocate for science and astronomy. Sign up now for Congressional Visits Day (CVD) on 14–15 September 2026. The deadline to sign up is 11:59 pm ET on Sunday, 5 July 2026.
Every year the AAS brings volunteers to Washington, DC to advocate for their science and the priorities of the astronomical science community with members of Congress. CVD is an opportunity for AAS members to learn more about the federal government, the policy making process, and how to best influence policy makers. This is also an important time for members of Congress to hear from their constituents on what issues matter most to them and to ask for federal support and funding.
AAPT is partnering with AAS, along with several AAPT members for advocacy training and Hill visits to communicate the critical importance of science education programs to Congress. https://ow.ly/PoNn50ZggkY
