College Park, MD, January 10, 2025—The 2025 recipient of the Barbara Wolff-Reichert Travel Grant is Sabrina Whitaker.  The award will be presented by the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) at the AAPT 2025 Winter Meeting in Saint Louis, MO.

Whitaker earned her BS in physics from Indiana University at South Bend, her MS in Earth science from The Ohio State University, and her Master of Arts in Teaching Physics from Stony Brook University. Prior to teaching, she worked as a science editor with scientists from around the world at Ehime University in Matsuyama, Japan. Whitaker has been in the classroom for eight years, and has taught Regents physics for seven years. She is the English-as-a-New-Language Summer Literacy and Community STEM Teacher Coordinator a co-advisor for Farmingdale High School's Science National Honor Society and advisor to the DigiTech Club. Outside school, she advises her local Girl Scout troop while knitting in her free time. She considers herself a lifelong learner who strives to instill that same love of learning in her students. She is a recent NYS Master Teacher and STEP-UP advocate.

About the Award The Barbara Wolff-Reichert Travel Grant endowment was created by Jonathan F. Reichert to honor Barbara Wolff-Reichert and to encourage new high school physics teachers to attend and participate in national meetings of the American Association of Physics Teachers.  It is motivated by Barbara’s own transformation by her experience at AAPT national meetings which led to many creative and effective changes in her own teaching career.
