Upcoming vote to eliminate partner membership class in AAPT bylaws
As required by the AAPT Bylaws, this announcement gives notice about an upcoming vote to eliminate corporations as members. Instead, AAPT is planning to offer sponsorship opportunities that include individual memberships for corporations sponsoring at a high enough level. The change was introduced to the Board of Directors at the 2024 Winter Meeting and will be presented to the Board for a vote at the 2024 Summer Meeting. A document with the motion, rationale, current bylaws language, and revised bylaws language is available here. If you have any questions or comments about this change, please email AAPT Secretary Blane Baker at secretary@aapt.org.

Physics and Astronomy STEMM Equity Achievement (SEA) Change Departmental Program is recruiting for its 4th cohort!
The Physics and Astronomy STEMM Equity Achievement (SEA) Change Departmental Program is recruiting for its 4th cohort! P/A SEA Change is a collaboration among 11 physics and astronomy professional societies, including AAPT, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
Postsecondary education departments work through a comprehensive self-assessment regarding policies, practices, culture, climate, and outcomes. The self-assessment informs a 5-year action plan. Departments then apply for a Bronze award. If awarded, they will need to complete their 5-year plan. More information on the program is here.
We invite physics and astronomy postsecondary education departments in the United States (US) or US territories to apply to join cohort 3. Please apply for cohort 4 here by 1 August 2024 at 5 PM ET. We plan on informing departments whether they are joining cohort 4 by early September 2024.
PICUP/OPTYCs Summer 2024 Virtual Workshop
The Partnership for Integration of Computation into Undergraduate Physics (PICUP) and the Organization for Physics at Two-Year Colleges (OPTYCs) are partnering to offer a workshop on integrating computation into introductory physics courses for physics faculty this summer. The dates for this online workshop are Tuesday, July 30 through Thursday, August 1. Workshop details and registration information can be found here: www.compadre.org/PICUP/events/
This workshop is a very basic primer on integrating computation into introductory courses with easy-to-use, readily available computational tools. No programming experience whatsoever is necessary to participate. Both college (4-year and 2-year institutions) and high school faculty are welcome. If you have little or no prior experience with integrating computation into an introductory course, and you would like help finding out how to get started, we encourage you to attend! Even if you have never before considered the possibility of inserting a computational exercise into an introductory course, this workshop is for you!
Greater Chicagoland PICUP Workshop 2024
The Partnership for Integration of Computation into Undergraduate Physics (PICUP) is hosting the 3rd annual Greater Chicagoland Workshop at Lewis University in Joliet, IL on Saturday, September 21. Workshop details and registration information can be found here: https://www.compadre.org/PICUP/events/
Who should attend? Any physics educators from around the Chicagoland area (or anywhere else if you're willing to travel!) that want to energize their physics courses! The scope of this workshop is appropriate for physics teachers from high schools, 2-year colleges, and 4-year colleges and universities. This is the first reconvening of the Chicagoland workshop post-COVID. If you have attended one or both of the previous two workshops (2018 or 2019) you are absolutely welcome and encouraged to return. In addition to the introductory topics, intended for faculty who have little or no experience integrating computational activities into their physics courses, or for prior attendees who would like refreshers, there will be concurrent sessions with advanced and other topics of computational and pedagogical interest.

Call to Area Committees and List Serves - AAPT COMMUNITIES
If you chair an Area Committee and are interested in creating a group on COMMUNITIES, please get in touch with us. This may be the best way to create a "friends of the committee" group going forward. Using this method, the Chair could set the default delivery option for the group to Real-Time, which would most accurately mirror the current list serve model. These groups would be open for any AAPT member to join. We would like to start with a handful of these groups as a pilot program to see how it works. If you are interested, please reach out to Mike Hall (mhall@aapt.org).
For those who do not choose to create a dedicated group on COMMUNITIES, you can still use the platform to let AAPT members know about your activities by posting in the General Community. We encourage all AAPT members to visit the AAPT COMMUNITIES platform and follow the Tag for any committee that you are interested in. Likewise, we encourage Committee Chairs to use this tag when posting information relevant to your committee.

Medical physics is a field that uses concepts in physics to address questions in medicine. Medical physicists work in research, education, and clinical capacities in medical imaging, radiation therapy, and health physics. Physics students who want to learn how an MRI scanner works, read about how radiation affects cells, or just want to learn about a career in applied physics will enjoy this website, which includes an active "Ask the Expert" platform. https://www.medicalradiationinfo.org/.
Find Resources for Teaching Physics for Life Sciences Students on the Living Physics Portal
The Living Physics Portal is an online environment for physics educators to find, share, and discuss free teaching materials for introductory physics for life sciences (IPLS). The objective of the Portal is to improve the education of the next generation of medical professionals and biologists by making physics classes more relevant for life sciences students. The Portal is available for free to all verified educators.
Features available on the Portal are:
• Anyone can view and download over 200 resources in our Vetted Library.
• Registered users can also view and download over 100 resources in our Community Library, along with answer keys and other instructor supplements, and join discussions about resources.
• Registered users can contribute curricular resources and instructor resources to our Community Library and Vetted Library, including adaptations of others' resources, and join our discussions. We accept all kinds of resources at all grain sizes, from a single activity to materials for a whole course. We encourage you to start by submitting a small activity to our Community Library. Once you get the hang of that, we invite you to contribute your polished materials to our Vetted Library to be reviewed by our editors.
Career Toolbox for Undergraduates
The Careers Toolbox for Undergraduate Physics Students is a set of tools and exercises designed to help undergraduate physics students prepare to enter the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics workforce. Tools range from exploring the common job titles of physics bachelor's to preparing for interviews, and are all geared specifically for physics students. This resource is brought to you by the American Institute of Physics and the Society of Physics Students. The 4th Edition is now ready for use.
